This powerpoint provides up-to-date homeless data specific to Athens-Clarke County. We have been advocating for mental health treatment housing (MHTH) to be built at Advantage Behavioral Health for quite some time. This MHTH project started as SPLOST 2020 Project 28, and with additional funding from state grants and ACC ARPA funding, it should break ground soon. It will provide 60 beds for transitional (up to 2 yrs) mental health and substance abuse treatment on-site at Advantage Behavioral Health. If successful, this project should be considered a pilot for the state to expand to other service board areas. Expanding services statewide would alleviate the pressure placed upon cities like Athens to provide indigent mental health services vital to unsheltered homeless on the streets.
